Luis Tomasello

Argentinian painter of Italian origin, Luis Tomasello was born on November 29, 1915 in La Plata, province of Buenos Aires, and died in Paris on January 17, 2014.

He worked with his father as a bricklayer, carpenter, and painter. He attended evening drawing classes between 1929 and 1931 and the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón in Buenos Aires between 1932 and 1938. Later, he continued his studies at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes Ernesto de la Cárcova, between 1940 and 1944. In 1951, before his first trip to Europe, he met the painters Emilio Pettoruti and Carmelo Arden Quin. With this, he founded the Salón Arte Nuevo in Buenos Aires in 1954. In 1951, he lived for six months in Paris before finally settling in that city in 1957
