On March 9th, the exhibition “Docugraphies — Thematic Renaissance of Almir Mavignier’s painting” will be inaugurated at Dan Galeria.

The exhibition presents a set of works in which the artist Mavignier digitally recreated compositions that were previously constructed in oil painting on canvas. This series of digital paintings were named by the artist as “Docugraphies”. According to Paula Braga, “In them, there are the games of light and color that have brought applied arts and plastic arts to the same level since the 1950s.”

Almir Mavigner’s career intersects the main artistic and social contexts that fostered Brazilian Concretism, such as the research conducted with psychiatric patients proposed by doctor Nise da Silveira, in which artistic activities were used as occupational therapy. In addition, he was a student of Josef Albers and Max Bill at the Ulm School where he developed his work as a visual designer, as a way of inserting art into everyday life.

Visit the exhibition starting on March 9th at Dan Galeria, Rua Estados Unidos, 1638, Jardim América. The space is open from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
