Dan Gallery is pleased to announce the representation of the artist Francisco Sobrino (1932 – 2014).

Born in Guadalajara, Spain, the artist participated in the GRAV group (Paris, 1961), which developed aesthetic research linked to optical, kinetic and interactive art. Among the artists belonging to the movement were Julio Le Parc, Horacio Garcia Rossi, François Morellet, Joël Stein and Yvaral Vasarely.
Francisco Sobrino has participated in several important exhibitions, such as the 36th Venice Biennial in 1972, the 3rd Kassel Documenta, in 1964, and the show “Responsive Eye”, at MoMA, in 1965. In addition, he has works belonging to institutional collections such as the Beacon Collection (Boston, United States), Fondazione Peggy Guggenheim (Venezia, Italia), Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid, España), Musée national d’art moderne – Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris, France), Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (Madrid, España), Musée Tamayo (Ciudad de México, México), Tate Modern among others.
In 2015 the Museo Francisco Sobrino was inaugurated in his hometown (Guadalajara, Spain), which houses representative works of the artist’s trajectory.

To celebrate this moment, we announce the opening of the exhibition “Francisco Sobrino, Modular Structure and Light”, the artist’s first solo show in Brazil.

Curated by Franck James Marlot, the show will feature sculptures, paintings and serigraphs dating from the late 1950s.

We thank Celia, Delia and Daniel Sobrino, the artist’s children, for making this partnership possible, a project we look forward to sharing with you.

On this occasion, we will launch the book “Francisco Sobrino”, a co-edition of Dan Galeria that features texts by Matthieu Poirier, Marjolaine Lévy and Alfonso de la Torre.

We are waiting for you on May 26, starting at 3pm. Dan Gallery is located at 1638 Estados Unidos Street, in São Paulo.
